Best time to visit Mauritius
The first question most future visitors to Mauritius ask is “when is the best time to visit Mauritius”? The answer really is….it depends! The weather is not the only thing to consider when you are planning a holiday in Mauritius. But now that we are talking about the weather….because Mauritius is a tropical island, it enjoys warm weather all year round. And yes, tropical island means that there is humidity but there are also trade winds that come in from the south east that stop it from getting too humid. The year is divided into two seasons, summer which is December to April and winter, which is May to November. If you were basing your travel decision solely on the weather, the best months to visit Mauritius would be May to the end of November. This is because January and February are the peak cyclone season. Now, before you panic, cyclones rarely land on Mauritius but a passing cyclone will effect the weather and could lead to a few days of heavier than normal rainfall. The other bad thing about passing cyclones is they do stir up the sea and make it a really bad time for divers and other water sports fans.

If you are planning on diving or any other water sport and you just want to relax on your holiday then there are two other big factors to consider when planning your holiday. Mauritius is really popular with French tourists and that means that there is a big increase in demand (and therefore prices) during the French school holidays for accommodation and flights. The other factor that effects the availability of flights is the university holidays in the UK, Canada and Australia. What? It is really popular for students to leave Mauritius to attend University. The most popular destination is England, followed by the rest of Europe, Canada and Australia. So if you are planning a holiday ask your travel agent: 1. When are the French school holidays? 2. When are the (insert where you are flying from) University holidays? The answers to these two questions will have an impact on how much your airfare costs, flight availability, accommodation availability and the crowds at your chosen accommodation!
